Betty Rachel Rascoe Harris, 86, of Owensboro died January 17, 2019 at Signature Healthcare at Hillcrest after a four year battle with dementia. She was born in Trigg County, KY in March 1932 and her family moved to Daviess County in 1944.
Her husband of 63 years, William "Boogie" Harris, preceded her in death, as well as a daughter, Cara; a grandson, Jarrod William Harris; her parents, A.J. and Lucille Rascoe; her in-laws, Ford and Mabel Harris; a sister, Mildred Foster and two brothers,, Ewing and Ralph Rascoe.
A 1950 graduate of Daviess County High School, she worked at General Electric for several years before choosing to be a stay-at-home mom and full-time farmwife. A devoted wife and mother, she was an excellent cook and meticulous housekeeper who was a master at canning, pickling and preserving. Having inherited her mother's love for plants and flowers, she had a "green thumb" with plants. She also enjoyed antiques and collecting glassware. A member of Pleasant Grove Baptist Church for over 70 years, she enjoyed the fellowship of the JOY Women's Sunday School class.
Survivors include three children, Byron (Shonna) Harris, Myron (Kay) Harris, and Debbie (Adrian) Quintin; grandchildren, Todd (Kelly) Quintin, David Quintin, Carrisa Harris, Marty (Jenny) Harris and Ashlee (Adam) Coomes; great-grandchildren, Katie, Paige and Andrew Quintin, Della and Liam Harris, and Xavier and Zander Coomes; her siblings, Linda Rascoe, Martha (Mike) Kenney, Gerald (Barbara) Rascoe, and Bobby (Nancy) Rascoe; sisters-in-law, Jean Rascoe and Marilyn Rascoe; numerous nieces, nephews and cousins.
Services will be at 11:30 a.m. on Monday at James H. Davis Funeral Home & Crematory. Burial will follow in Elmwood Cemetery. Visitation will be from 2 to 6 p.m. on Sunday and after 10 a.m. on Monday at the funeral home.
The family will receive flowers, but memorial contributions can also be made to Sunrise Children's Services, P.O. Box 1429, Mt. Washington, KY 40047.
The family expresses appreciation to the staff at Signature Hillcrest Nursing Home for the care and attention provided during the last four years.
