Claudette Wilson Martin, 76, of Owensboro passed away Monday, February 12, 2018 at her home. Born January 1, 1942 in Owensboro, she was the daughter of the late Claudie B. and Edith Margaret Arnold Wilson, was a homemaker, and was a member of Mt. Zion UMC in Panther. Claudette Martin was an advocate for youth sports. She started slow pitch softball for local high schools; volunteered and coached youth sports; and dedicated many hours to working concession stands and other fundraising efforts for children. Her favorite sports teams were any that her children or grandchildren were playing on and the New York Yankees. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by father and mother- in- law, William K. and Martine Martin, a daughter, Margaret Ann Martin in 1963 and a brother, Kenneth Dale Wilson in 2007.
Claudette Martin is survived by her husband of 56 years, William "Billy" Martin; a daughter, Debbie (Jerry) Aldridge of Owensboro; sons, Todd (Scottie) Martin and Jeff (Carrie) Martin of Owensboro; grandchildren, Justin (Samantha) Aldridge, Jansen (Jenny) Aldridge; Dakota Martin, McKenzi Martin, and Phoenix Willett all of Owensboro; great-grandchildren, Jagger Martin, Levi and Lucy Aldridge, and Elizabeth Aldridge all of Owensboro; sisters-in-law, Millie Baker of Louisville and Shirley Wilson of Owensboro; nieces and nephews, Carol (Pat) Riley, Kelly (Roy) Fitchett, Nicki (Richard) Sparks, Ricky Wilson, and Billy (Sara) Wilson; and countless friends who were her baseball family.
Services are 12 noon Thursday, February 15, 2018 in the chapel of Glenn Funeral Home and Crematory with Doug Tarrence officiating. Burial will follow in Elmwood Cemetery. Visitation will be from 2-7 p.m. on Wednesday and after 10 a.m. on Thursday at the funeral home.
