Ernestine DeJarnatt passed peacefully on May 15, 2019 with her family at her side while in the care of Hospice of Western Kentucky. She was born in Nashville, Tennessee on June 14, 1924 to the late Thomas Lee and Lola Fox. She was preceded in death by the love of her life, Marshall DeJarnatt; her favorite child, Thomas Marshall DeJarnatt; and her twin sister, Erline Morgan. She was a member of First Baptist Church and Friendship Sunday School. She was a Kentucky Colonel and served as President of Lady Kentucky Colonels, ESA sorority, and Younger Womans Club. She held various offices in Midday Chapter, Homemakers Club, Owensboro Womans Club and Guild of Owensboro Area Museum of Science and History. She was a state employee for thirty-one years at Owensboro Vocational Technical School. She was an avid bridge player, reader, and flower gardener.
She is survived by her favorite child, George Lee DeJarnatt (Dana), her favorite child, Barbara Gayle DeJarnatt, and her favorite child, Rebecca Kaye DeJarnatt; a daughter-in-law, Kay DeJarnatt; four grandchildren, Douglas Marshall DeJarnatt, Kristyn Wainwright (Daniel), Robin Leigh Carlisle (Steve), and Dashiell Haviland DeJarnatt (Jessica); seven great grandchildren, Benjamin Carlisle (Rachel), Lexie Carlisle, Nora Wainwright, Anna Wainwright, Ella Wainwright, Elisia DeJarnatt, and Ryan White-DeJarnatt; a great-great grandchild, Rylan DeJarnatt; and a sister, Christine Fletcher.
Her service will be held at 12:00 noon on Saturday, May 18, 2019, at the Chapel of James H. Davis Funeral Home & Crematory in Owensboro. Burial will follow in Rosehill Cemetery in Owensboro. Visitation is from 10:00 a.m.-12:00 noon on Saturday at the funeral home.
She was a huge supporter of St. Jude Children’s Hospital and various other charities. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to The Heartford House, Hospice of Western Kentucky or St. Jude Children’s Hospital.
