Eugene Deal, Sr

Eugene Cornelius Deal, Sr., went home to be with the Lord at his home on Wednesday, October 10, 2018. He was born in Owensboro on July 9, 1927 to the late Nathaniel Deal, Sr. and Motee Long Deal.

He accepted Christ as his Lord and Savior and was a member of Fourth Street Baptist Church for 78 years, he was baptized at age 13. He served as an usher and was a member of the adult senior’s group. He was a member of the men’s choir in his younger years.

He served in the U.S. Army Air Forces and retired from Owensboro Municipal Utilities in 1990 as a water plant operator after working 29 years.

He graduated from Western High School in 1945. He enjoyed traveling, reading, going to movies, bowling, eating out, spending time with family, and listening to Smooth Jazz music. Growing up he participated in the Boy Scouts and the Drum Corps and performed in many parades.

He was preceded in death by his mother and father, two daughters, Florence Helena Deal Davenport, Vicki Lorraine Deal, three brothers, Nathaniel Deal, Jr., Ben Deal, Sherman Warner Deal, three sisters, Mary Alice Glover, Motee Liggins, Modestine Howard, one grandson, Morris Eugene Orlando Stewart, two sons-in-law, Jerry Davenport, Marshall Stewart, and a close childhood friend and classmate, Edsel Thruston.

He leaves to cherish his memories three children, Janet Deal Stewart, Eugene C. Deal, Jr., (Loretta), Cynthia Deal Merriwether (Rick), Evansville, IN; one sister, Shirley Clark, Evansville, IN; one sister-in-law, Naomi Deal; a special friend, Eleanor Veronica Stewart; 10 grandchildren, 14 great-grandchildren, two great great-grandchildren, several nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.
