Harold T. Phillips, 93, of Owensboro, passed away on Saturday, December 8, 2018 at Owensboro Health Regional Hospital. He was born April 22, 1925 in Daviess County, KY to the late Edward J. and Zulla E. Alvey Phillips. He retired from the U.S. Navy as an aircraft mechanic serving from 1942 to 1966 He served during World War II, Korea and Vietnam Wars and earned the silver star, bronze star and National Defense Medal. He also retired from the U.S. Postal Service after 22 years as a mail carrier. Harold was a Master Mason of Third Degree of Columbus, Ohio, Lodge #476 for 64 years, a 52 year life member of FRA #105, was also a member of Amvets Post 75, American Legion Post 9, DAV Post 4, VFW Post 696, F.R.A. Representative for JEVCO, F.R.A. Representative for Owensboro/Daviess County Veteran Organization and he was an honorary member of the American Legion Riders. Harold was a member of Hall Street Baptist Church and loved spending time with his family,granddogs and his buddies at all of the veterans organizations. But his greatest pride was his grandson, Kyle.
In addition to his parents, he was also preceded in death by his wife, Anna Lee Peters Phillips and a stepbrother, Maurice Birkhead.
Survivors include his daughter, Athalia Phillips (Ras Sager) of Owensboro; a grandson, Kyle Leet (Megan) of Owensboro; and his brother from another mother, Lou Drawdy (Linda).
Funeral services will be at 11 a.m. on Saturday, December 15, 2018 in the chapel at James H. Davis Funeral Home & Crematory. Burial will follow in Rosehill Cemetery with military honors. Visitation is from 2 to 8 p.m. on Friday with a final salute tribute at 5:30 p.m. and a Masonic service to follow at the funeral home. Visitation will also be from 9 to 11 a.m. on Saturday at the funeral home.
