Herman Louis Johnson, 89, son of the late Mr. Robert Norris Johnson and Mrs. Mary Rapier Johnson Morton, was born in Utica, Kentucky, November 13, 1928, and was a Chicagoan since 1960. Herman departed this life on Friday December 22, 2017 at home with his loving and supportive family.
In 1972 he gave his life to Christ and was a member of First Christian Assembly Church and walked faithfully with the Lord until he was called home. He attended Western High School in Owensboro and was a forklift operator for A.L. Lakin & Sons in Chicago until his retirement in 1995. He was a wonderful Father, Grandfather, Brother and Uncle.
Herman was preceded in death by two brothers; William L. and James Lee Johnson, two sisters; Shirley Ann Holbrook and Nel Verna McCreary.
Herman leaves to mourn his passing and cherish his memories, his loving wife, Beatrice Johnson; one sister, Merle (Elmo) Griffith; ten children, Robert (Cynthia) Johnson, Gloria Smith , Janice (William) Shemwell, Sue Nell Frierson, Lourendy Crowe, Ida Mae ( Clarence ) Lane, Dennis (Kitty) Johnson, Glenn Johnson, Barbara Motley and Denise (Tecarlos) Offord; seven step-children, John McKinney, Joseph Blocker, Jerry Blocker, Dewayne Blocker, Anna Blocker, Beverly Washington, and Renae (Garnett) DaCosta ; 39 grandchildren , a host of great-grandchildren and great-great grandchildren, nieces, nephews and cousins. He will be sadly missed not only by his family, but by his wide circle of friends.
