Mrs. Ida Mae Eans Crafton, 90 of Lewisburg, Kentucky, formerly of Owensboro, passed away on June 30, 2019 at home surrounded by those that meant the most to her: her family. Ida will be greatly missed as a loving mother, grandmother and great-grandmother. She was born on June 18, 1929, in Pueblo, Colorado to the late William Leslie and Delia James Eans. She and her family moved to the Owensboro area when she was a very young child. It was then that she learned the value of hard work, working most every day on the family farm taking care of the animals or stripping tobacco. She graduated from West Louisville High School in 1947 and later attended the Owensboro-Daviess County Hospital School of Nursing where she received her "Registered Nurse" license on July 20, 1950.
She married the love of her life, C.W. "Bill" Crafton, on August 24, 1950, and they were married for 64 years until Bill's death in 2014. Bill deployed to Korea in 1951 and while he was gone, Ida kept the books for Crafton's LP Gas Company in Owensboro, the company owned by Bill's father, while also working in the Labor and Delivery Department at the Owensboro-Daviess County Hospital where she would work the night shift (11p-7a) for nearly 25 years.
In 1976 Dr. J. Ross asked Ida to become his surgical nurse and head office nurse for his developing urological practice in Owensboro. After working the night shift for that long she needed a new daytime adventure, so she said yes and went to work for him until she moved to Maryland for Bill's job in 1980. She retired from nursing when she moved to Maryland. In 1987 she and Bill moved back to Owensboro where they lived until Bill's death.
Ida loved nothing more than being with, and supporting, her family. She also enjoyed volunteering for community organizations, trips to the beach, working in her garden, spending time on the water, and making world famous chocolate chip cookies.
Ida is survived by a loving family; two sons, Dr. Terry (Cheryl) Crafton and Lieutenant Colonel (Ret) Toby (Tina) Crafton, both of Logan County, Kentucky; four grandchildren, Jessica (Bill) Nicholson of Avon, Indiana, Meredith Crafton of Seattle, Washington, Todd (Lisa) Crafton of Newnan, Georgia, and Tyler (Steven) Crafton-Karnes of Acworth, Georgia; two step-grandchildren, Erin (Billy) Parr and Paul Thompson, both of Phoenix, Arizona; four great grandchildren, Hanna, Taylor, and Bailey Nicholson of Avon, Indiana, and William Christopher Crafton of Newnan, Georgia; two step-great grandchildren, Jake and Jenna Parr of Phoenix, Arizona; and many special nieces and nephews.
