Ila Townsend

Ila Mae Townsend, 91, of Owensboro, peacefully entered Heaven on Thursday, August 16, 2018. She was born in Patsy, Kentucky to the late Sylvester and Mandy Stewart Townsend.

"Mae Mae", as we all called her, was genuinely the most amazing person, always smiling and laughing. She was most definitely the best cook, and if you never got to taste her fantastic cherry pie or fried chicken, then you truly missed out! She adored her family and loved spending time with them. If you knew Mae Mae, you knew how golden her heart was and what a wonderful person she was. She had the sweetest soul, and no one can ever replace her.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by brothers, Elza, Verlin, Sherman and Robert Townsend; a niece, Rosa Gabbard and her husband, Sam (whom Mae lived with for many years); and a great-nephew, Gary Gabbard.

Ms. Townsend is survived by great-great-nieces, Carey Lynn Richards, her husband Donnie and their children, (with whom Mae lived), Ashley Shown and Aleah Gabbard; great-great-nephews, Michael Gabbard and his wife Caryn and Rob Gabbard and his wife Tina; great-nephew, Kimble Gabbard, all of Owensboro; several great-great-great nieces and nephews; and extended Townsend family.

Private burial will be at Elmwood Cemetery.
