John Murry Calhoun, 83 of Owensboro passed away Thursday, December 20, 2018 at Hermitage Rehab Center. He was born June 11, 1935 to the late John C. and Aline Calhoun. John was a member of Blessed Mother Catholic Church where he served faithfully as a Eucharistic minister. He retired from St. Mary's School in Whitesville after 32 years. John was an avid UK basketball fan. He was a fantastic musician, who played accordion for the band known as the "Whitesville Hoe-Downers". He also organized several musical programs at school and played the organ for several organizations. John volunteered at the Riverpark Center, was a member of the Owensboro, Kentucky, and National Right to Life Organization, and was a Kentucky Colonel. He was previously on the board of the Lincoln Amphitheatre and served in the Owensboro Choral Society for many years.
He was preceded in death by his brother, William "Bill" Calhoun.
Survivors include his wife of 44 years, Raymunda Wedding Calhoun of Owensboro; his sons, John M. Calhoun II (Lauren) of Owensboro and Patrick Calhoun (Nicole) of Plainville, IN; his grandchildren, Jack, Michael, Katie, and Addison Calhoun; his sister-in-law, Faye Calhoun of Owensboro.
The service will be 10AM Thursday, December 27, 2018 at Blessed Mother Catholic Church. Fr. Mike Clark will officiate. The burial will be in Elmwood Cemetery. The visitation will be 3-8PM Wednesday with prayers beginning at 7PM and 8:30AM until service time on Thursday at Glenn Funeral Home and Crematory.
