Joseph Wayne Velotta, 70, of Owensboro, passed away Monday, February 12, 2018, at Owensboro Health Regional Hospital. He was born on June 19, 1947 in Daviess County to the late Irvin Joseph Velotta and Elsie Louise Christian Velotta. Wayne was a Navy veteran from the Vietnam era. He retired from Southwire where he worked as a mill operator for 30 years. He also worked for Daviess County Public Schools as a bus driver and monitor. He was a volunteer fireman in Dukes, Kentucky, where he served as the Assistant Fire Chief. He enjoyed his Christmas village, riding his bike, trains and train rides, collecting aluminum cans, camping, hunting, being outdoors, being around the water front, and spending time with his family.
Along with his parents, Wayne was preceded in death by his brother, Scott Velotta.
Wayne is survived by his wife of 13 years, Susan Velotta, his children Jay (Lyn) Velotta of Owensboro, KY, Debra Velotta of Wisconsin, Patty (Chris) Cary of Owensboro, KY, Teresa (John Goldsberry) Velotta of Owensboro, KY, Audrey Renfrow of Owensboro, KY and Joseph Hinton of Owensboro, KY, 16 grandchildren and three great-grandchildren.
He is also survived by his siblings Michael (Lois) Velotta, Fabyan (Steve) Bridgmon, Tommy (Truby) Velotta, Stephen (Nancy) Velotta, and John Paul "JP" (Melonie) Velotta.
Services will be 11:00 am Friday, February 16, 2018 at Haley McGinnis Funeral Home & Crematory, with Reverend Tim Trout officiating. Burial will be at Rosehill-Elmwood Cemetery. Visitation will be from 4:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. Thursday, February 15, 2018, and also from 9:00 a.m. to 11:00 a.m. Friday, February 16, 2018 at the funeral home.
