Joy Elaine Burton, 80, of Owensboro, passed away on Sunday, August 26, 2018 while under the care of Hospice of Western Kentucky. She was born on December 6, 1937 in Evansville, IN to the late Richard Dike and Geneva Whitaker Dike. She was a retired teacher where she taught in the Owensboro Public School System for 28 years. She taught at Whitesville, Franklin, Lincoln, and Estes Elementary Schools. Joy attended Indiana University and graduated from Kentucky Wesleyan College. She was a member of Wesleyan Heights United Methodist Church. She was a Kentucky Wesleyan Basketball fan since 1960 and she loved college basketball, NFL football, especially the Indianapolis Colts, and Peyton Manning. She also loved to dance and listen to her grandson play in the band, Insulated. But most of all she enjoyed spending time with her grandchildren
Survivors include her husband of 58 years, Douglas E. Burton; a son, Scott Burton (Cindy Bartley); a daughter, Cindy Lynn Dunn (Jimmy); nine grandchildren, Marret Howard (Jeremy), Coty Burton, Chad Martin (Leonora), Cameron Martin (Hannah Powell), Courtney Martin (Greg Pappas), Seth Dunn (Jessica), Jennifer Dunn Ward (Ian), Kayla Bartley (Bobby Holt) and Jenna Bartley; seven great-grandchildren, Kylar, Kynder, Aiden, Lliam, Lincoln, Griffin and Emily.
Funeral services will be at 11 a.m. on Thursday, August 30, 2018 at Wesleyan Heights United Methodist Church, Owensboro. Entombment will follow at Rosehill Cemetery. Visitation is from 3 to 7 p.m. on Wednesday at James H. Davis Funeral Home & Crematory and after 10 a.m. on Thursday at the church.
