Larry Dale Burton, 82, of Owensboro, passed away on Thursday, February 22, 2024 while under the care of Hospice of Western Kentucky. He was born on October 21, 1941 in Owensboro to the late Arvel and Dorothy Denham Burton. Larry played football while attending Owensboro High School. He was accepted into the Marine Corp. 3rd recruit battalion, platoon 361 M.C.R.D., Parris Island, S.C. on December 18, 1959. He reached the rank of Lance Corporal. After his time in the Marine Corp., he continued his career at Western Electric until his retirement in 1991. He was a member of St. John United Methodist Church. He enjoyed being an Eagle Scout, his many trips to Birmingham, Alabama visiting his grandparents, and drinking coffee at McDonald's with his brother and buddies. But most of all, he enjoyed spending time with his family.
In addition to his parents, Larry was preceded in death by his wife of 44 years, Lena Mae Burton; a brother, Douglas Burton; and a sister, Phyllis Howe.
Survivors include his stepsons, Danny McIntyre and David McIntyre; nieces and nephews, Scott Burton (Cindy), Cindy Dunn (Jimmy), Ron Kern (Valerie), and Kelly Kern (Celeste); a step-grandchild, Erica Wiggins; and several great nieces and nephews.
Funeral services will be at 12:00pm on Wednesday, February 28, 2024 at James H. Davis Funeral Home & Crematory. Burial will follow in Elmwood Cemetery. Visitation will be from 10:00am until the time of the service on Wednesday at the funeral home.
