Lester E. Lewis, 88, of Owensboro, went home to be with the Lord on Thursday, April 25, 2019 in Owensboro while under the care of Hospice of Western Kentucky. He was born on March 9, 1931 in Paducah to the late James and Vada Wilson Lewis. Lester was retired from W.R. Grace and Daramic and also retired from the National Guard after 21 years of service. He graduated from Paducah Tilghman High School where he was a star in football and track and he held many state records. He was a deacon at Bellevue and Lewis Lane Baptist Churches where he taught Sunday School and was a scholar of Revelations. He enjoyed playing golf and got a hole in one once. Lester was a loving husband and devoted dad and granddad.
In addition to his parents, he was also preceded in death by a brother, W.G. Lewis and sisters, Marie Parle and Audrey Lambert.
Survivors include his wife of 68 years, Carolyn Lewis; two daughters, Sherry Gillians (John) of Owensboro, and Diane Thompson (Jim) of Bloomington, IL; two granddaughters, Dr. Michele Gillians Reynolds (James) of Crab Orchard, KY and Jamie Leigh Thompson, of Davenport, Iowa; and a grandson, Jason Lewis Thompson of Bloomington, IN.
Services will be at 11 a.m. on Monday, April 29, 2019 at James H. Davis Funeral Home & Crematory. Burial will follow in Rosehill Cemetery. Visitation is from 2 to 6 p.m. on Sunday and after 10 a.m. on Monday at the funeral home.
