Margaret Smith Marshall, 92, of Paducah, Kentucky formerly of Owensboro and Lexington, Kentucky passed away at 5:26 a.m. Monday, June 10, 2019 at Superior Care Home. Margaret was born to Emmalene and Hugh Smith on January 6, 1927 in Owensboro, Kentucky. She married Clifton Marshall in 1959 and at that time became a wonderful mother to four-year-old daughter, Geraldine (Gerry) Ann.
Margaret attended Indiana University and graduated from Western University; she worked as an executive secretary for Texas Gas in Owensboro, Kentucky before her marriage and motherhood. She loved reading, playing bridge and dogs, especially dachshund dogs. Above all, she loved her friends and family. She lived twelve years at Brookdale Assisted Living in Paducah. She was a member of Lone Oak First Baptist Church.
Margaret is survived by her daughter, Geraldine Ann Marshall (Gutfreund) of Reidland, KY; granddaughters, Audrey Gutfreund and husband, William Dalsen of Somerville, MA, Dr. Rachel Gutfreund and husband, Ed Waisanen of Ferndale, MI; three nephews and one niece.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Hugh Griffith Smith and Emmalene Jagoe Smith; sister, Jean Smith Thomas; her husband Clifton J. Marshall.
Graveside services will be held at 11:00 a.m. Saturday, June 15, 2019 at Rosehill Cemetery in Owensboro, Kentucky with Rev. Jeff Wallace officiating.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations in Margaret’s memory to the McCracken County Libary, 555 Washington Street, Paducah, KY 42003 or to the Lone Oak First Baptist Church, 3601 Lone Oak Road, Paducah, KY 42001 or to the animal rescue organization of your choice.
