Marie Stewart, 80, left this world on Monday, May 21, 2018 as she lived it, fearless of death, and at peace, surrounded by loving family through whom her legacy will survive. Heaven it would appear, needed her more and we can't blame God for taking such a remarkable person sooner than we wanted to let her go.
She will be missed by all that knew her for love of life, compassion, benevolence and motherly instincts that extended beyond family. A true matriarch, in the best sense of the word, she shaped and influenced both family and friends with her sage guidance, friendship and love (to say nothing of her world renowned cheeseballs). Possessed with a wry, unfiltered and disarming wit, she endeared herself to all that had the privilege of being on the receiving end of such banter.
She was preceded in death by her beloved husband of 47 years, Bob Stewart; her parents, Dola & Lena Jones; brother, Ronnie Jones and sister, Betty Boone.
Survivors include daughters, Debbie Shuler (Don), Jill Berry (Mark), Terri Wight (Tony Johnson) and Gaynell Stallings (Tim Green) and by all measures a loving, surrogate son, Bill Hill. Loving and grateful grandchildren include Jason Shuler, Brandy Hassman (Jon), Jaclyn Hodskins (Jacob), Jessica West (Matt), Hunter Wight and Olivia Weatherholt (Zach); great-grandchildren who adored their "Nana Ree" include Jakob Shuler, Jagger Shuler, Sam Hassman, Rex Hassman, Isabella Hodskins, Gabby Hodskins, Sylvie Hodskins and Charlie West; She is also survived by sisters, Lucille O'Bryan, Wanda Oldham (Jack Myers), Dora Westerfield and Sandra Bowman and brothers J.D. Jones (Lorayne) and Donald Jones (Hilda).
The family would also like to give special thanks to Dr. Jacob Hodskins for the loving and compassionate care given during her final journey.
Services will be at 11 a.m. on Friday, May 25, 2018 in the Chapel at James H. Davis Funeral Home & Crematory. Burial will be in Elmwood Cemetery. Visitation is from 4 to 8 p.m. on Thursday and from 9 to 11 a.m. on Friday at the funeral home.
Expressions of sympathy may take the form of donations to Cliff Hagan Boys & Girls Club, 3415 Buckland Square, Owensboro, KY 42301.
