Melanie Egan

Melanie Egan, loving wife, mother, and grandmother, passed away on October 15, 2023, in Owensboro, Kentucky. She was born in Owensboro on March 5, 1961, to the late Virginia Mae Taylor and Donald VanWinkle. Melanie never slowed down, was filled with determination, and lived her life to the fullest. She later went back to school and graduated as a Hilltopper of Western Kentucky University in 1999 with a degree in accounting and worked for 15 years in Social Security Administration. She loved to travel with Pat Egan, her husband of 26 years. Some of her favorite destinations were Las Vegas, New Orleans, and Cancun. But most of us remember Melanie’s absolute love for her family. There isn’t a mountain she would not, and could not, move for them.

In addition to her parents, Melanie joins her son, Billy McLimore, Jr., brother, Donald VanWinkle, Jr.; and her grandmother, Elva Smith in death.

She is survived by Connie (Dave) Comer, Krystal McLimore, Dustin McLimore, and Dylan Chandler. Her love was felt equally by her extended family, Gary (Colleen) Egan, Jerri (Sandy) Silman, and Mary Maddox. Melanie was known as Mamaw to her grandchildren, Roman, Gracen, Skylar, Tyler, Sadie, Alex, Samantha, Nathaniel, and Simon.

There was no light brighter than her smile during family gatherings, baseball games, basketball games, and daily encounters with everyone she met. She is missed terribly by all who knew her.
