Robert Taylor

Robert K. Taylor, 84, of Owensboro, passed away on Sunday, May 27, 2018 while under the care of Hospice of Western Kentucky. He was born July 31, 1933 in Owensboro to the late Keith and Virginia Barr Taylor. Robert was a retired English teacher and member of Settle Memorial United Methodist Church where he had been active with the youth for many years. Robert was a graduate of Owensboro High School in 1951, a graduate of Kentucky Wesleyan College in 1955, and received his Masters degree from the University of Kentucky in 1958. He first taught at Rockport (Indiana) High School in 1955-1956, then taught at Daviess County High School from 1958-1967, continued his teaching at Kentucky Wesleyan College from 1967-1970, and then concluded his teaching career at Owensboro High School from 1970 until 1989 when he retired. Robert was a lifetime member of the National Education Association, was a Kentucky Colonel, and had served in the U. S. Army Reserves. He was also preceded in death by his sister, Carolyn Heckman and brother-in-law Casey Heckman.

Surviving are 2 nieces, Patty Ritter and husband Terry of Ft. Wayne, Indiana and Kay Heckman and her fiancé Scott Jensen of Eagan, Minnesota, a nephew, Mark Heckman and wife Chris of Batesville, Indiana, four great nieces and nephews, one great great niece, and special friends, Larry and Sherrie Vanover.

Services will be noon Saturday, June 2, at Glenn Funeral Home and Crematory with burial following in Elmwood Cemetery. Visitation will be from 10:00 A.M. until 12:00 P.M. Saturday at the funeral home.
