Vivien Nemitz, 88, of Owensboro entered her eternal home on Thursday, December 6, 2018 at Owensboro Health Regional Hospital. She was born August 4, 1930 in the Mississippi Delta to the late Daniel Edison Rickels and Alice Hester Rickels. She was a member of First Baptist Church. Vivien graduated salutatorian of the 1947 class of Tchula High School and graduated from Delta State College, Cleveland, Mississippi in 1951 with honors. She was an elementary school teacher before dedicating her life to supporting her family, her husband and the three churches they served. Vivien held numerous leadership roles in all the churches. She was very faithful and a wonderful behind the scenes worker, never wanting to draw attention to herself. She always gave credit to the Lord. In addition to her parents, she was also preceded in death by her husband of 64 years, Clarence Nemitz in 2016.
Survivors include her daughter, Gaila Taylor and her husband, David; two grandchildren, Steven Lature and Emily (Ryan) Huminski; great-grandchildren, Korbin, Ben, Felix, Alice, and Mikah; and several nieces and nephews.
Funeral services will be at 11 a.m. on Monday, December 10, 2018 at First Baptist Church, Owensboro. Burial will follow in Elmwood Cemetery. Visitation is from 2 to 6 p.m. on Sunday at James H. Davis Funeral Home & Crematory and after 10 a.m. on Monday at the church.
