Winnie Johnson Blackburn, 95, of Owensboro passed away Tuesday, November 6, 2018 in the care of Hospice of Western Kentucky. Born in Ohio County on December 18, 1922, Mrs. Blackburn was the daughter of the late Lee and Ethel Havener Johnson; was retired from Daviess County High School where she was the librarian for 25 years; and was a member of Lewis Lane Baptist Church. Mrs. Blackburn loved to knit and had knitted over 120 sweaters for children as part of the World Vision Program. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, T.O. Blackburn in 2008; a son, James William Blackburn in 1983; brothers, Bob Johnson, Edwin Johnson, and Bill Johnson; and a sister, Eva Jean Cole.
Surviving are a daughter, Janet (Charles Hill) Blackburn of Paducah; grandchildren, Scott Blackburn of Louisville and Julie (Paul) Nowaki of Lexington; great-grandchildren, Mark Blackburn and Mary Beth (Michael) McCuistion of Cincinnati; a sister, Marlyn (Elmo) Matthews of Jacksonville, FL; and several nieces and nephews.
A special thanks to Joyce Wills and Lois Velotta who were loving, dedicated, and compassionate caregivers for Mrs. Blackburn.
Services are 12 p.m. Saturday, November 10, 2018 in the Chapel of Glenn Funeral Home and Crematory with Bro. Franklin Skaggs officiating. Burial will follow in Elmwood Cemetery. Visitation will be after 10 a.m. Saturday at the funeral home.
